//david cook.

i don't know what rock i've been under during this season on american idol, but by chance, i happened to stumble across this video of david cook. apparently he won this season.
it's kind of amazing.
it's a really amazing cover of an already awesome song.

//a pizza hut, a pizza hut, kentucky fried chicken and a pizza hut.

last night the parentals, k.spils, and i ordered pizza from the hut. here's the acutally convo that went down.

(after just ordering the two pizzas)
ph guy: so, will that be everything for you?
me: actually, if i could get an order of cheezy garlic bread to.
ph guy: k... what size? large or small?
me: do you know what the size difference is? how many pieces are there?
ph guy: uhhhhh, i gotta check. hold on.
-bad on hold music-
ph guy: k, so, the large is quite a bit larger.
me: super.... ummm, i work better with numbers than abstract descriptions, so do you know how many pieces are in each?
-on hold music-
ph guy: uhh, yeah. the large has 4 pieces.
(what is 4 quite a bit larger than? 1?)
me: ok, then i will take 1 order of the large cheezy bread.
ph guy: okay, that will be $$$ and it'll be there in an hour.

pizza gets delivered, sans cheezy bread. i've never call to bitch about a misorder before, but i was choked that they were employing a fourth grader to answer their phones. after a quick chat with a very apologetic manager, my food was back on it's way.

an hour later the hut delivery man arrived baring the fruits of my labour.
not only was i comped the cheezy bread, but they threw in a free order of garlic bread.
thank you p.hut manager at royal oak. you have successfully kissed enough ass to keep me coming back!

//props.

shout out to joanna, our friendly smoothy maker at the SUB.
s.spils and i get smoothies two or three times a week, cause they're friggin addictive, and we've befriended the manager, who happens to be the mum of a girl we went to highschool with.
jo is boss.
i, on a whim, put in a request for my favorite smoothy last week, as i knew that the semester was coming to a close.
on tuesday, as usual, we saunter up to the counter, only too see that the daily special was...
"By Request - Cranberry Orange"
thanks jo, you rock!

//most ridiculous weekend ever: day three

epic.
foo fighters.
check it off my list of life goals.

woke up at the crack of 9, showered, packed 12 of everything, etc, and then grabbed h.stone and booked it to the ferries. stayed at the holiday inn express on e. hastings in van, and managed to avoid any encounters with heroine queens. h.stone and i hit up robson and raided american apparel (gold lamé bikini top), and got the world best hot dog at café crepe.
then, it was time.
foo fighters.
dave grohl.
a god amongst men (and women!)

i am bruised, battered and stoked. h.stone and i had managed to fandangle ourselves to the very front and rocked our faces off. we made a little posse with lusty, noodle, sarah, and lyrics. we were a team.
foo epitome song: everlong -- i had that moment of being so happy and psyched, that i straight up stopped functioning and was just awestruck. that man is a he-ro.
we got back to the hotel around 1, ran back out for burger king (cause h.stone was a little peckish) and crashed around 2. 4:45 the alarm went off and we were on the road by quarter after 5. made the 7 and had h.stone at work on time by 9:30.
as spils and the parentals can attest, i'm still super hyped about this concert.

props to security guard greg for giving us water like baby birds in a nest, to lusty for protecting me from the crowd surfers (after i took a rather serious blow to the brow -swollen and bruised-), mama stone for the worst joke ever ("don't get in any foo fights!"), and drew and the most ridiculous triangle solo known to man.

//most ridiculous weekend ever: day two

rolled out of bed yesterday morning to the aftermath of the typical house party. all the dinner dishes were still piled in the sink, and as anyone who knows me can attest, i use every dish in the kitchen. got the kitchen cleaned and then went straight to work.
i was rocking a wicked hangover at work yesterday and it was inventory in bulk at t foods. long, long day... off at 9, and welcomed home by the aftermath. my entire 5 foot coffee table was covered. every square inch had a bottle, can or glass stuck to it. managed to get the house looking livable within 45 minutes (record timing) and then did a 10pm tim hortons run for supper and treats for the parental units. nothing like going to bed on a stomach full of chili...

//most ridiculous weekend ever: day one

last night was spils' birthday, hosted by none other than me, the bff. we went from a quite dinner with three, to an accidental house party... all sorts of remarkable. had an amazingly delish dinner and the most ridiculous custom made birthday cake (tiger tiger and cotton candy from Mr. Tubs), and then some raucous drinking games with some people from work. the whole crew was there representing t foods. epic.
played multiple rounds of fuck you, watched hoja take straight shots of tequila from the bottle without flinching and got a sweet battle wound from messing around on northridge's new adventure playground.
happy birthday bef.

//kickin' it back to the old school

thank you uvic.
random guy rocking the black and gold MC Hammer pants at 9:30 this morning, i salute you!
next time though, don't talk so damn loud into your cellphone headset - it makes you look like the crazy guy from the bus. use it like a regular phone like normal people do.
but don't change the hammer pants.
they're beautiful.

//katy, ur so gay.

this is possibly the most obserd thing i've ever seen. i'm still not sure if it's amazing or horrendous...
i'm amazed that the FCC hasn't pounced on this one. well, i guess it's no nip slip...

//gobble.

dear turkeys,
i saw you this morning, trying to cross at wilkinson and mann. i hope that you enjoyed your early morning church service. is the grass really greener on the other side? glad you made it home okay, and that the grumpy morning commuters didn't try to hit you an keep you for easter supper. however, if you wouldn't mind using the crosswalk next time, and abide by the rules of the road, it would make my morning commute run on time, as i happened to be running late this morning.
thank you,
happy commuting.

//things amanda likes.

i love putting on an old pair of jeans, or a seldom worn jacket, and finding money in the pocket.
eg. this morning when i put on a pair of forgotten jeans and scored $7!

when i wake up in bed, spread eagle on my stomach, and realize that i'm hugging my bed.

drive by bubble teaing with buna and ryan and the looks of sheer terror on the faces of the pedestrians as we speed by.

turning on the comedy network while i eat my honey nut cherrios, and laughing to tears before 8am.

tim horton's roll up the rim, and how i've already gotten a free donut and a coffee. c'mon $50 gift card!

being a youtubeist.

jjinthecouv. steve, don't eat it. thesuperficial. perezhilton. pennyarcade.

*EDIT* Molly Ringwald's knack for making every one-on-one situation painfully awkward.

//gimme more.

when exactly did Disney start mass producing child stars? i don't ever remember this phenomenon when i was a kid. i suppose there was always the Mickey Mouse Club, but that was only in the states. canadian children were deprived of seeing britney spears as a sane virgin. at some point, amanda bynes, high school musical, and the cheeta girls hit the scene, and before we knew it, they had leached their way into society.

the rise of Disney stars is comparable to the fall of boy bands. One day we were chillaxin to the sweet sounds of BSB, and then they were gone. As if they all vanished into the dank basements of rehab centers, never to be seen or heard from again. We were content with eating fruit-by-the-foot, hunting for sexual innuendos in Disney's cartoon classics, then all of a sudden Zac Efron and his band of singing miscreants hit the scene and we haven't been able to get rid of them since.

The point is, these kids are impossible to avoid, and sadly, some of their shit is beginning to mingle with mildly catchy tunes (in a pop princess kind of way). I now find myself downloading and ... car dancing.... to Miley 'Speech Impediment" Cyrus.

When did this happen? Better yet, when's it going to end?

//and by 'texas,' she means 'bel-air'

this is in dedication to maimes' stellar mid Step Up comment.

now this is a story all about how my life got twist-turned upside down,
and i'd like to take a minute, just sit right there,
and i'll tell you how i became a prince of a town called bel-air.

in west philadelphia, born and raised, on the playground is where i spent most of my days,
chillin out maxin, relaxin all cool,
all shootin some b-ball outside of the school,

when a couple of guys were up to no good, started making trouble in the neighbourhood,
i got in one little fight and my mum got scared,
she said, "you're movin with your auntie and uncle in bel-air!'

i whistled for a cab, and when it came near, the license plate said fresh, and there were dice in the mirror,
if anything i could say that this cab was rare, but i thought 'now forget it, yo homes to bel-air!'

i pulled up at a house at about 7 or 8 and i yelled to the cabbie, 'yo homes, smell ya later,'
i looked at my kingdom, i was finally there,
to sit on my throne as the prince of bel-air.

**from memory, forgive the errors.

//overheard at uvic

guy: well she's a scorpio, and i'm an aries, so you can only imagine how awkward that conversation will be...

sure thing buddy...

//the circus has come to town

so today...
i saw a girl who's middle toe was the biggest out of all of them. i then was passed by a lengthy, blonde, '80s hair metal mullet, and not 30 seconds later, a walking unibrow went by.

what is wrong with people at uvic??

//corpse breath v.2

for the last two christmases my sister has dogsat this little white ball of fluff named Freddy. Freddy's pretty bitchin', except that he's got the stank breath of a well decomposed corpse.
today, i experienced a wind far worse than Freddy - the foul mouth of my prof.
death-stank breath does not even begin to describe it.
so potent, that even in the desperate resort of mouth breathing, i could taste it. a truly eye watering experience.
might i suggest a tic-tac?

//may experience some UV exposure.

i had my first go in a tanning bed today. it was a stand up bed to be precise. after slathering myself with what was apparently coconut scented lotion (coconut seeped in bleach and turpentine, maybe) and strapping on the vision destroying "goggles," i bumped around, using my bat-skill sonar to position myself in the tiny, soon to be, wind tunnel. as instructed, i positioned my heels on the strips of ungrated floor, hit "go" and closed the door. thus commenced the wind tunnel. not thinking, i left the towel on the rack on the door. it then proceeded to launch off the rack and take flight around the box. in my goggle blinded state i was discombobulated as i was repeatedly bitch slapped by my white cotton assailant. i was finally able to wrestle it down to the ground and pin it beneath my foot. however, it continued to beat my ankle as i dangled from the two ceiling mounted handles, trying to find the best position to evenly tan my pasty white ass.

the wind tunnel and uv lights (which were actually blue) finally cut out and i was left as a disheveled, frazzled, lotion slathered mess. i unlubed myself and quickly dressed, shamed with my failure as a towel wrestler.

i figure i have another 17 minutes in the bed, so the next time will hopefully be more successful.
wish me luck.

//exhaustion does not look good on me.

it's midterm season. it's also inconvenient work schedule season. my boss likes to schedule me for the nights before my midterms, and clever girl that i am, i don't clue into the fact until the morning before the test.
i need to start booking time off to study.
i have two midterms done, (english and psyc) and one more to go (greek&roman) but i also have a journalism article due on thursday, which i haven't started and have no idea what to write on.

journalism is apparently my chosen career, but at the moment, i hate it.
psyc seems to be where it's at.
indecisive people should not be allowed in university...

but on the bright side, i recently learned that the library is home to a mystical school supplies dispensing vending machine. this pretty much blew my mind. wite-out, pencils, blank cds, the whole nine. i don't know how i've gone 5 months with this not being brought to my attention.

*J: I'll try and make my life more interesting for your reading pleasure. uvic is no italy.

//grindstone.

we're back at uvic here, and it's the same old.
people running around, freaking about because they

a) don't know where CLED, CORB or HSDA is
b) don't have time to run from CORA to ECS6 in 10 minutes
c) have an hour and a half break with nothing to do.

it's good to be back, but all i want to do is go back to england and my tiny flat, if you can even call it that. shout outs to hillcroft and the rest of st. swithuns.

it's good to blog.
